John Hinchley Dies At Bloomfield Home At Age of Fifty-six

John Josiah Hinchley passed away at his home in Bloomfield Wednesday , Feb. 1, 1928, after a lingering illness of nephritis and cardiac insufficiency.  He was born on the old homestead in Bloomfield Feb. 3, 1871, making him 56 years, 11 months and 27 days of age at the time of his death.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Eliza Hinchley.  He was married Sept. 12, 1906, to Myrtie M. Brooks of Lind.

To this union one son was born, George E. Hinchley, who with the widow survive him.  He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. E. Hinchley of Fremont; two brothers, Edward and Clarence of Bloomfield, and two sisters; Mrs. E. Callender of Evanswood and Mrs. Oscar Barr, also of Bloomfield, besides many other relatives.  His father and two sisters have preceded him in death.

Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church, a loving husband and father, very patient in his suffering and had a smile and welcome for everyone.

The funeral which was held at the home Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 o’clock, was largely attended.

Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Brooks and son Clarence of Pittsville, Francis Brooks of Oshkosh, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Biettler and children, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell Anderson of Larsen, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lieby of Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barr of Wild Rose, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Eastman and Mrs. J.W. Brooks of Springwater, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Uben of Ogdensburg, Mr. and Mrs. John Brooks of Waupaca. (1928)

James Bradbury, second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bradbury Sr. was born at West Bloomfield, Dec. 31. 1859, and had lived in and around that community all his life.  He passed away Thursday July 16th at the advanced age of 71 years, 6 months and 15 days.

Mr. Bradbury was a great sufferer from asthma for the last twelve years.  He was a stone driller for about 18 years, but was unable to do much work for the past twelve years.

The surviving are two brothers William and Charles of West Bloomfield, and four sisters, Anne, Blanche, and Janet at the old home, and Mrs. Julia Kuhl of Evanswood, also seven nephews.  (1931)

MRS HINCHLEY BURIED APRIL 8

Funeral services were held at the home at 12:30 p. m. Wednesday and at 2:30 p. m. at the old Hinchley homestead in West Bloomfield for Mrs. Eliza Hinchley, 83 years of age.  The Rev. S. B. Lewis of Weyauwega was in charge and burial was held at West Bloomfield.

The pallbearers were six of her grandsons, Frank Looker, Ray Looker, John Looker, Vern Hinchley, Theo. Hinchley and George Hinchley.  Relatives from out of town who were present were Mr. and Mrs. George Meyers of Phillips, Mrs. Herman Zipp, Mrs. Francis Combs and son Ray, and Mrs. Adrian MacDonald of Peoria, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Leiby of Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hanson of Oshkosh, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Beiter of Larson.

Mrs. Hinchley was born in Indiana, Oct. 29, 1847, and when she was seven years of age moved to West Bloomfield with her parents.  In 1861 she married Edward Hinchly and they made their home on a farm until about 20 years ago, when they moved to Fremont, leaving their son, John in charge of the farm.  She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1921, and three children.

She is survived by two sons, Edward and Clarence of West Bloomfield, two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Barr of West Bloomfield and Mrs. Elsworth Callendar of Little River, 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. (1931)

Isaac Stephenson, a life long resident of Bloomfield, died Sunday, Sept. 9 and the last rites were held at Weyauwega Presbyterian church Wednesday, Sept.  12, Rev. Everette Delware officiating with burial in Union cemetery.  Born in Ireland Jan. 1 1847 he came to America in 1869 and was married to Mary Allen Nelson in town of Bloomfield in 1873.  Daughters are Mrs. Elmer Pickell, Battle Creek , Mich., Mrs.  Gerold Bradbury and Mrs. Henry Kempf of Bloomfield.  There are 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  (1934)

Friedrich Rucks

Friedrich Rucks, a farmer, for many year a resident of West Bloomfield, passed away at his home on July 5th.  He had been ill all summer and for one week previous to the time of death he was confined to his bed.

Deceased was born in Germany on April 26th, 1855 and came to America many years ago.

He is survived by his widow, four sons, three daughters, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at the West Bloomfield church on Monday, July 8th by Rev. Wm. Naumann and interment was made in Concordia Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Herman Koehler, August Behnke, John Bauer, Henry Kleist, Herman (cannot read) and Fred Thews were the pall bearers.

Mrs. Wilimena Rucks

Mrs. Wilimena Caroline Rucks of West Bloomfield passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Stuebs of Little Wolf , on Friday, Aug. 20, at the age of 68 years and 2 months, after an illness of two weeks.

Mrs. Rucks was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Koeppen and was born in Germany on June 20, 1858, coming to this country and settling in West Bloomfield in 1868.  In 1877 she was united in marriage to Frederick Rucks.  Eight children were born of this union, one of whom died in infancy.

She is survived by her children, Anna, Mrs. Carl Stuebs; Alvina, Mrs. Herman Stuebs of Little Wolf; Louise, Mrs. Irving Bartel; Henry; Chas. and Martin of Minnesota; and Leo; besides twenty-one grandchildren and on great-grandchild.

Mrs. Rucks had been a faithful member of the West Bloomfield church, and was always a kind and loving mother.  She was well liked by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by all.

The funeral was held from the West Bloomfield church on Monday, Aug. 23, with services in charge of Rev. Neuman.  Interment was in Concordia Cemetery at West Bloomfield.

The pall bearers were:  Martin Pagel, Herman Hirte, Herman Koehler, Julius Trojan, Herman Beyers and Alb. Krause.

JOEL HOWARD, d. October 3d, 1892(ENGLAND)

An old pioneer, a neighbor, and a friend… Our friend, JOEL HOWARD was a descendant of a long line of distinguished English families and was born at Mottram, or Woodhead England, in 1824.  He came to this country when a mere youth and lived until he arrived to manhood with his sister’s family, when he was induced to enter as a sailor, upon the Western Lakes, sailing summers, and working winters in a number of lumbering points in Northern Wisconsin.  Some time in 1850 MR. HOWARD claimed a quarter section of land, being the present homestead, sometime before the Government survey…July 24th, 1853 MR. HOWARD married MISS HANAH WINCHELL, of More, and settled upon his claim with his family in February 1855…..On the first days of August last MR. HOWARD came to Oshkosh to try the virtues of the Turkish Baths for an old trouble, but after a few days trial, instead of relief, was compelled to take to his bed.  The best of medical treatment and careful nursing proved unavailing and MR. HOWARD passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3d, 1892, at 2:30 p. m. making his age about 69, leaving a family, consisting of a wife, three daughters and a son.  A brief funeral service was held at the residence of GEORGE HAWLEY, No. 388 Wisconsin Avenue, Oshkosh, on Tuesday, the 4th of 11 a. m. the Rev. WM. BENNETT of the 2d. M. E. Church officiating.  His remains were taken by boat to Tustin and thence to Bloomfield to his residence, and Thursday following at 10 o’clock a. m. the funeral took place, the Rev. Mr. SPENCER of Pine River officiating….. The remains were laid in the family lot at Brushville beside a daughter who preceded him many years before.

MARY E. NELSON

Died at her home at Brushville, Wisconsin April 5, 1899, aged 32 years, ten days, of consumption.  She taught school at Sacramento, Berlin, Colebrook, Poy Sippi and Green Lake.  Buried Brushville cemetery.

Brushville

Grandma [Dorathe] Larson died April 12, at 10 a. m.  The funeral services were held at the Brushville school house, Rev. Christiansen of Saxeville officiating.  John Beyson of Tustin was in charge of the funeral.  Mrs. Larson was 87 years and 11 months old.  She leaves two sons, Frederick and C. J., five grand children and one great grand child.  Mrs. Larson has been a widow since March 6, 1872.  Mr. Larson received fatal injuries from a tree falling on him and died the same night at the age of 60 years, 11 months. Died August 22, 1901, little son, aged two and five months of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blaisdell Jr., found a bottle of carbolic acid and drank enough to poison him.  His name was Leon.  Buried Brushville cemetery by the side of his brother who died two years and nine month ago.

FRANKLIN B. BLAISDELL

The death of Waushara Co.’s well known and prosperous farmer occurred at his home in the town of Bloomfield, Wednesday morning, October 2, 1901.

The deceased was born in Cambridge, La Moil Co., Vt., August 17, 1830, and was at the time of his death in his seventy-second year.

At the age of nineteen he was married to Ruth Stanhope, who lived only four years.  By this union one child was born, Homer, who is living in Stanley, Wis., and with his wife attended his father’s funeral.  In 1855 he was united in wedlock to Vesta Westman, who is still living.  Five children were born to this union, four of whom survive.

In the year of 1859, Mr. Blaisdell with his family came to Wis., locating in the town of Bloomfield, where he has since resided.  At the breaking out of the war of the Rebellion he enlisted in the Union Army in Co. D. of the 8th Wis. Infantry and was honorably discharged at the close of the conflict.  He has since been an active; interested official member of the G. A. R.  His last sickness was brief, having been confined to his bed but two days.  Death was due to a complication of bowel and kidney trouble.

In his death we lose one of our pioneer settlers.  The funeral services were held at the Brushville school house, Friday at 2 p. m., Rev. [?]. T. Fish, officiating.

The G. A. R. Post of Poy Sippi was present and laid his body to rest in the neighboring cemetery, awaiting the glorous resurrection.

DEATH OF MARK HANSEN

Mark Hansen, brother of Mrs. H. P. Peterson and Chris Hansen of this city, died at his home at Brushville, Wednesday evening at the age of sixty-seven years.  The funeral will be held at the home Saturday afternoon  Rev. H. D. stone of this city will conduct the services. (June 1919)

Herman Strehlow

Herman Strehlow died most suddenly at his home at Brushville Friday evening, March 5.  The funeral was held Tuesday, March 9, at the Brushville Cemetery.

The first that Mr. Strehlow complained of anything wrong was a head ache.  He lay down upon the lounge and said that he felt cold; his wife placed something over him.  After this she heard him breathing hard and after a little time this stopped.  She went to him and found him dead.

Weyauwega Chronicle - Weyauwega, Wisconsin - December 23, 1896

Mrs. Wm. Bradway, who formerly resided in Tustin, died at Rhinelander Thursday of last week of consumption.  The remains were taken back to Tustin and buried there Sunday noon.  Her niece, Mrs. Charles Weiser of Springwater aged about 20 years also died on Thursday of the same disease. Weyauwega Chronicle - Weyauwega, Wisconsin - February 3, 1897

L. Meyer of Tustin, well known to our residents, died very suddenly Monday from the effects of an overdose of laudanum.  He was in the habit of using this drug to quiet his nerves, and unfortunately took more than his system was able to withstand.  He was short in stature but very portly and is said to have weighed over 330 pounds.

Weyauwega Chronicle - Weyauwega, Wisconsin 0 July 14, 1897

Christopher Gollneck, who resided on a farm in the town of Wolf River, a short distance this side of Tustin, was prostrated by the heat Friday afternoon and died on the road side.  He was passing from one field to the other on his way to milk cows, and as he did not return in the evening a search was begun and his body was found.  He was 75 years of age and an old resident of that place.  His funeral was held Saturday.

Weyauwega Chronicle - Weyauwega, Wisconsin - January 16, 1901

FUNERAL WAS POSTPONED.

Freddie, an eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Prellwitz of Tustin died of a spinal disease Friday, and his funeral was announced to take place Sunday.  When the relatives and a large number of friends were assembled to take a last look at the body someone remarked that he believed the boy was not dead, owing to the limp condition of the body.  Dr. Greiner of Fremont was again summoned and after a thorough examination pronounced the boy dead, but the funeral was postponed till Monday afternoon.
