NOTICE: I am in the process of
fixing broken links and adding new information and this will take
some time. Welcome to the Waushara County, Wisconsin History and Genealogy page! I hope you find new information to aid in your family research or information that will give you new direction. Please stop in often to check for frequent updating. If you have information, pictures, transcriptions or other items you would like to share with other researchers by posting them on this site OR would like to help by transcribing Waushara county items, please email me! (Please state the county when emailing.) ___________________________ Wisconsin became a state in 1848, with Waushara County being formed February 15, 1851 from Marquette County. This land owned by the Indians in 1848 soon changed by September of 1848. In September of 1848 Isaac and William Warwick made a claim to land which is now in the town of Marion. The Indian Agent and the Chief of the Menomonee Indians ordered the Warwick brothers to leave, but this was soon taken back by the Warwicks.. During 1849 and 1850 settlers began gathering and making settlements in parts of the present county. Those included in the early settlers were: John C. Williams, William F. Chipman, John H. Detrick, Lewis Bagg, E.W. Alford, William Tibbett, Thomas Kelly, Leonard Wilcox, William Lord and others. The county originally consisted of a single town, which was the Town of Waushara and with the county seat first located at Sacramento. In 1852 the county was organized for judicial purposes and in September 1854 the county seat was moved to Wautoma, where it remains today. In 1857 the first building was purchased to house the court house.
Today Waushara County consists of
18 Townships which include: Aurora, Bloomfield, Coloma, Dakota,
Deerfield, Hancock, Leon, Marion, Mt. Morris, Oasis, Plainfield, Poy
Sippi, Richfield, Rose, Saxeville, Springwater, Warren and Wautoma,

___________________________ Search the Waushara County Website Reminder: When searching for a surname you may only find that surname as you have spelled it. Example: Paeth may only be found as that - if the transcription of the surname is spelled as Pate you will not find it by searching for the spelling Paeth. (Wilson/Willson: Londowski/Landowski, etc.) Try various spellings of the surname you are seeking. Also if you are searching for a John Londowski use the quotations marks "John Londowski". This will bring up only those names when they are together in that manner. If you put John Londowski in the search without the quotation marks all Johns and all Londowskis will come up - not just John Londowski.
The search engine on this page will only search the pages
within this site. This does not include the items posted on the Waushara
County message board. (Go to the message board link to search there.) The
message board has its own search engine. The search engine does not also
pick up the names on scanned items such the items scanned on the "News
Articles from the Past", Marriage, Obituary page, etc. Search Engine
