Eugene R. Stance
 
Eugene R. Stance, 88, Hancock, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hancock United Church of Christ in Hancock, with the Rev. Yul Kwon officiating. He will be buried with full military honors in Hancock Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and again from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the services.
 
A memorial has been established.

Mr. Stance was born March 20, 1919, in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late John and Martha (Badura) Stance.
 
He was married to Irene Rymark on May 27, 1943, in Harwood Heights, Ill. She died on March 30, 2002.
 
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a sergeant technician fourth grade. He was stationed in the South Pacific on the Hawaiian Islands and in Korea.
 
He and his wife moved to Hancock on May 27, 1963.
 
He was a lifetime member of the Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post and the Plainfield/Waushara VFW Post 6007. He was also the founder of the Greenwood Rod and Gun Club in Hancock.
 
While living in Chicago, Ill., he was a custom-home builder.
 
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Dennis and Marilyn (Jim) Hutkowski, both of Hancock; one son, Dennis, Hancock; one sister, Eleanor Young, Ripon; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
 
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and John; and two sisters, Nettie Cook and Katherine Vaessen.

Doliver D. Lipke

 
Doliver D. Lipke, 75, Plainfield, the owner of a Plainfield trucking company, died unexpectedly Monday, April 28, 2008.
 
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield, with the Rev. Tom Gaudet officiating. Burial will be in the Hancock Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Thursday until the services.

Mr. Lipke was born Jan. 19, 1933, on the Lipke Farm in the town of Deerfield in Waushara County, a son of the late Leonard and Harriet (Achsah) Lipke.
 
He was married to Betty Bouvat on Nov. 20, 1954, in Wautoma.
 
He served in the U.S. Army.
 
He was the owner and president of Doliver Lipke Trucking.
 
Survivors include his wife; eight children, Terry (Laurie) Lipke, Debra (Dan) Bartman, Patty (Nathan) Jome, Doliver (Malai) Lipke II, Heath (Tracee) Lipke, Tony Lipke, Sara (John) Lambert and Jamie Lipke; four sisters, Florence, Dora, Thelma and Juanita; one brother, Duane; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
 
He was also preceded in death by one son, Gary; three sisters, Lena, Stella and Blanche; and two brothers, Lawrence and Ernest.

Dale R. Losey
 
Dale R. Losey, 78, Hancock, brother of a Bancroft woman, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield, with the Rev. R. Alan Spitler officiating. Burial will be in the Hancock Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday until the services.

Mr. Losey was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Wisconsin Rapids, a son of the late Harold and Mabel (Habeck) Losey. As a young child he moved with his parents to the Losey Farm in Hancock.
 
He was married to Alene Schwarz on May 24, 1947.
 
Together they ran the farm until 1973, when they bought and operated the Hancock Laundromat. For 33 years he also worked as an AFLAC Insurance Agent and won several awards.
 
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Linda (special friend, Art Lynest) Bartram, Janice (John) Sierk and Marilyn (Scott) King, all of Hancock, and Lori (Scott) Erdman, Plainfield; two sisters, Beverly (Richard) Mattie, Florida, and Elaine (Bill) Baker, Bancroft; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ralph D. Bentley

 
Ralph D. Bentley, 60, Plainfield, died Monday morning in Plainfield.
Funeral services will be held 10 a m Wednesday at the Goult Gaspenc Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call after 5 p m today. The Rev. Michael Bablitch will officiate. Burial will be in Plainfield Cemetery.

Mr. Bentley was born Jan. 29, 1917, in Plainfield, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bentley. He was a retired self employed produce salesman.

He married Mabel Matusinee in Milwaukee in 1941 and later married Vi Wilmert in Plainfield in 1960. Both marriages ended in divorce.

Survivors include three sons, Richard and Roger Plainfield, and Tom, in Illinois, three daughters Mrs. Dick (Donna) Stratton, Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Dick (Pat) Wagner, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Sue Chipman, Green Bay, six sisters Mrs. Perry (Alice) Ordway, Plover, Mrs. Chris (Iva) Rupp, Sheboygan, Mrs. Harry (Marion) Swen, Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. George (Marjorie) Schilling, Almond, Mrs. Doris Sherman, Capron, Ill., and Mrs. John (LaNae) Keough, Bancroft one brother, Don, Eau Claire and 12 grandchildren.

Lawrence A. Smithmier
 
Lawrence A. Smithmier, 55, Plainfield. died Saturday afternoon at St. Michael's Hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held ] p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Plainfield. The Rev, Edward Ketcham will officiate. Burial will be in Plainfield Village Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the Goult-Gasperic Funeral Home, Plainfield.
Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. He was a member of the Knights Templar, Milwaukee.

Mr. Smithmier was born March 14,1922, in Arbyrd, Mo., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smithmier Sr He had lived in Plainfield the past 2 1/2 months and previously lived for 30 years in Milwaukee, where he was a chemical technician for Miller Brewing Co. He was a veteran of World War II.

He married Joyce Belka on May 31,1971, in Illinois. She survives. Also surviving are his father, in Tennessee; two daughters, Darlyn Joy Smithmier, Wauwatosa, and December Joy, Plainfield; one stepson, Kerry Miller, in Oregon; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Michael (Debra) Bursott, in Oregon; four brothers, Thomas, in Kentucky, Claude and Ray, in Georgia, and Jake, Tennessee; four sisters, Mrs. Luther (Marie) Holmes, New York, Mrs. Geza (Veldah) Biro, Illinois, Mrs, Eddie (Helen) Smith, Georgia, and Laurice Smithmier, Tennessee.

His mother, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Anton Palek
 
Anton Palek, 76, Route l, Bancroft, died Sunday morning at Columbia Hospital, Astoria, Ore. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Goult-Gasperic Funeral Home, Plainfield.
 
Palek services
 
Funeral services for Anton I. Palek, 76, Bancroft, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Goult-Gasperic Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Edward Ketcham will officiate. Burial will be in Plainfield Village Cemetery.

Mr. Palek died suddenly Sunday morning at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Astoria, Ore.
He was born May 15,1901, in Plainfield, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Palek. He was a farmer and a lifelong Plainfield area resident. He was chairman of the town of Grant and a member of the Portage County Board for 22 years.

He married Julie Malek on Nov. 25, 1921, in Plainfield. She died Feb. 13,1959. He then married Ella Mae Saeger on Dec. 18, l963, in Wisconsin Rapids. She died Nov. 14,1968.

Survivors include three sons, Richard, Knappa, Ore., and Leonard and Howard, Bancroft; one stepson, Charles Saeger, town of Grant; one stepdaughter, Mrs, Ben (Betty) Petrusky, town of Grant; one brother, Frank, St. Petersburg, Fla,; one sister, Mrs. Millie Meddaugh, Granton; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

One brother preceded him in death.

Mrs. Hazel Marie Osterhaus, 84, Plainfield, died Friday afternoon at home.

Funeral services were he!d this morning at the United Methodist Church, Plainfield. The Rev. Edward Ketchum officiated Burial will be in Plainfield Cemetery.

The Goult-Gasperic Funeral Home, Plainfield, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Osterhaus was born March 17, 1893. in Little Black, Wis., a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Stewart. She had lived in Plainfield the past 48 years and previously lived in Chili, Wis.
She married George J. Osterhaus on Feb. 14, 1913, in Spencer. He died in 1973.

She was a member of Plainfield Homemakers, Women's Society of Christian Service and Senior Citizen.

Survivors include four sons, George Ft , Milwaukee, Gordon, Roanoke, Va., John, Fresno, Calif., and Austin, Madison; three daughters, Mrs Harold (Dorothy) Prochnow, Wautoma, Mrs. Arlie (Audrey) Dent, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Clifford (Ruth) Tubbs, Plainfield: four brothers, Robert and Wilbur Stewart, Greenwood, Arthur, Withee, and Oral, Milwaukee; and Mrs. Olin (Mame) Thompson, Portage
An infant son preceded her in death.

Morris P. Marceau
 
Morris P. Marceau, 69, Hancock, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at the Manor Care Health Services Nursing Home in Fond du Lac.
 
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Gasperic Funeral Home in Plainfield. Burial will be at the Plainfield Cemetery with military honors.
 
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Friday until the services.
 
Mr. Marceau was born Oct. 28, 1937, in Rudolph, a son of the late Clifford and Lula (Morey) Marceau.
 
He served in the U.S. military.
 
He was employed as a farm laborer.
 
Survivors include three sons, Arthur, Paul (Michelin) and Walter (Jodi); two daughters, Tina and Michelle; two brothers, Pat (Ann), Hancock, and Milton (Nancy), Forroston, Ill.; four sisters, Mary (Ray) Karmitz, Hancock, Ruth Juarez, Wautoma, Doris (Ken) Rosenthal, West Bend, and Beverly (Mike) Serio, St. Charles, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Phyllis I. Steele

Phyllis I. Steele, 74, Port Edwards, a former Plainfield resident and mother of a Stevens Point man, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the Edgewater Haven Nursing home in Port Edwards.
 
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hancock Wesleyan Church in Hancock. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the church from noon Saturday until the services.
 
Gasperic Funeral Home of Plainfield is assisting the family.
 
Mrs. Steele was born June 24, 1933, in Augusta, a daughter of the late William and Ida (Durst) Smith.
 
She was married to Richard Ida on June 7, 1952. The marriage ended in divorce.
 
She was married to Arthur Steele on Nov. 16, 1985. He preceded her in death.
 
She was self employed in home care for the elderly.
 
Survivors include three sons, Rex Ida, Plainfield, Mark Ida, Hancock, and Richard (Cynthia) Ida Jr., Stevens Point; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Maralou M. Spees


Maralou M. Spees, 79, Plainfield, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at her residence.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in Plainfield United Methodist Church in Plainfield, with the Rev. David O. Leistra officiating. Burial will be in Plainfield Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the services.

Mrs. Spees was born April 21, 1928, in Washington, Ind., a daughter of the late Wilbur C. and Grace L. (Perkins) Bogue.
 
She was married to Garth W. Spees on Aug. 28, 1948, at the United Methodist Church in Plainfield. He died on June 24, 2007.
 
After they were married they lived in Plainfield for a short time, and then lived in Viroqua and Oshkosh, before retiring back in Plainfield.
 
She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Plainfield. She was also active in the Waushara County Historical Society and helped raise money for cancer research. She was a member of the Plainfield Senior Citizens Center. She was active at Curves and also the Breakfast Club with local friends.
 
Survivors include two sons, Eric (Jeanette), Omaha, Neb., and Marc (Stephani), Oshkosh; and three grandchildren.
 
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Lynn Schneider.

James S. Turner

James S. Turner, 92, Nekoosa, a Plainfield native, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his home.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gasperic Funeral Home in Plainfield, with the Rev. David Leistra officiating. Burial will be in Plainfield Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the services.
 
Mr. Turner was born July 6, 1915, in Plainfield, a son of the late William and Julia (Sanders) Turner.
 
He was married to Cora Mae Rozell on Aug. 9, 1941.
 
He farmed for many years before retiring from the Griffith State Nursery in 1979.
 
Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill (Pat), Nekoosa; one granddaughter, Ashley Turner; and many nieces and nephews.
 
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Ella Mae Applebee.

Earl D. Barker

Earl D. Barker, 85, Plainfield, a retired Plainfield auto dealer, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau.
 
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Plainfield, with the Rev. David Leistra officiating. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until the services.
 
Memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
 
Gasperic Funeral Home in Plainfield is serving the family.
 
Mr. Barker was born Sept. 28, 1922, in the town of Pine Grove, a son of the late Duncan and Lena (Mehne) Barker.
 
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
 
He was married to Helen Randorf on Aug. 25, 1953, in Almond. She died Jan. 4, 2004.
 
He owned and operated Barker Chevrolet and Towing in Plainfield for many years.
 
Survivors include one son, David (Barb), Plainfield.

Gordon G. Hall, 49, Plainfield, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Hall was born Aug. 26, 1958, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Gale and Nora (Sherman) Hall. He attended Tri-County Schools.
 
He lived in the Plainfield area his entire life.
 
Survivors include two brothers, Stan (Pat) and Vern (Jan); two sisters, Lois (Dale) Scott and Dee (Tom) Sullivan; three nieces; two nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
 
He was also preceded in death by one infant brother, Glen; and one niece.

Elayne H. Bradford

Elayne H. Bradford, 66, Plainfield, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at her home after a battle against cancer.

Mrs. Bradford was born Sept. 19, 1941, in Rushford, Minn., a daughter of the late Conrad and Lucille (Flood) Amundson.
 
She was married to Daniel Bradford on Sept. 19, 1960, in Caledonia, Minn. They later divorced. He died in November 1999.
 
Survivors include four daughters, Kari Bradford and Laurie (Frank) Lecher, both of Plainfield, Julie (Dave) Senft, Bancroft, and Connie (William) Quintanilla, Madison; three sisters, Grace (Ralph) Grubbs, Beverly (Ed) Przytarski and Hazel (Monte) Lecher; three brothers, Vilas Amundson, Faye (Betty) Amundson and Butch Amundson; and four grandchildren.
 
She was also preceded in death by one sister, three brothers and one grandson.
