Charlie A. Kielblock

Charlie A. Kielblock, 52, Scandinavia, the owner of Silver Lake Lanes in Scandinavia, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.
 
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Scandinavia Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
 
Mr. Kielblock was born May 29, 1954, in Tigerton, a son of the late Wilbert and Hildegard (Olson) Kielblock.
 
He was married to Sherry Neuman on May 15, 1976, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigerton.
 
He and his wife owned the Silver Lake Lanes in Scandinavia for several years.
 
Survivors include his wife; three children, Kevin (Teresa) Kielblock, Scandinavia, and Kurt Kielblock and Kelly Kielblock, both of Milwaukee; three brothers, Mike (Candra) and Larry (Carol), both of Tigerton, and Bob, Shawano; one sister, Wanda Draeger, Scandinavia; and three grandchildren.

Lloyd Berg
 
Lloyd Berg, 78, Route 5, Waupaca, died Tuesday at Riverside Hospital, Waupaca.

He was born in Stevens Point Feb. 27, 1899, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Louie Berg.

He married Sylvia Johnson June 1, 1922, at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church.

Mr. Berg lived in the Scandinavia area and spent the past 27 years in Waupaca.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Olga Larson, Waupaca, and Mrs. Carl (Sadie) Nygaard, Scandinavia, and one half-sister, Mrs. Mable Chapman, Wittenberg.

He Was preceded in death by his wife.

Friends may call at the Vole Funeral Home, Iola, tonight. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Scandinavia Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arthur Reesnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.

Hjalmar Peterson
 
Hjalmar Peterson, a barber in Scandinavia for many years, died Tuesday at the Iola Hospital. He was 87.

He had been a resident of the Iola Nursing Home for the last two years. Death followed a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola, with David A. Miller conducting the Jehovah's Witnesses rites. Burial will take place in the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Peterson was born Oct. 31, 1889, in the Town of Scandinavia, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Berndt Peterson.

He was single.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Clara Eierman, Milwaukee, four nieces and three nephews.

Edna T. Johnson
 
Edna T. Johnson, 92, Stevens Point Care Center, Whiting, a retired Rosholt teacher, died there Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007. She was a former town of New Hope resident.
 
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Thomas Petersen officiating. Burial will follow at Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at Boston Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the church from noon Friday until the service.
 
Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 12, 1915, in the town of Linwood, a daughter of the late Albert and Alvina (Hackbart) Bortz. She attended La Follette Grade School in the town of Linwood and graduated from Emerson High School in Stevens Point in 1933.
 
She graduated from Stevens Point State Teachers College in 1937.
 
She was married to Sam O. Johnson on June 9, 1951, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He died July 30, 2004.

She taught at rural schools in Laona, Plymouth and Waupaca. From 1959 to 1979 she taught fourth grade at Rosholt Elementary Grade School in Rosholt.
 
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of its Young at Heart Club.
 
Survivors include one son, David (Holly), Floyds Knobs, Ind.; two grandsons, Ryan and Kyle; and nieces and nephews.
 
She was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Stephenson Services

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church for Mrs. Anna Stephenson. The Rev. S.M. Becker officiated at the services and burial followed in the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery. The Voie Funeral Home, Iola, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Sylvan and Carsten Gurholt, Harry Johnson, Knut Ugland, Paul Chady and Arnold Seering.

Mrs. Stephenson, 38, died Saturday at the River Pines Community Health Center after a brief illness. She had been a resident of River Pines for two weeks and had lived several years in Skokie, Ill. She was a former resident of Scandinavia.

The former Anna Olson was born Nov. 6, 1874 in the Town of Amherst, a daughter of Mr and Mrs. Thomas Olson.

She married Stephen Stephenson on Feb. 16, 1898 in Amherst.

Mrs. Stephenson is survived by four daughters. Fern, Evanston, Ill.. Lorraine. Amherst, Mrs. Arthur (Lucille) Quentin and Mrs. Forest (Inez) Greenwood, both of Skokie., Ill; two sons, Vernon, Fox River Grove, Ill., and Eldred, Merritt; Island, Fla.; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and Three greai-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Maynard L. Moe

Maynard L. Moe, 81, of Scandinavia died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Scandinavia Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.

Maynard was born Jan. 13, 1924, in the town of St. Lawrence, son of the late Palmer and Susanna (Riste) Moe. He was a rural mail carrier for the Scandinavia Post Office for 20 years and a World War II Navy veteran. He married Joyce Zemple on March 15, 1947, at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church.
 
Survivors include his wife Joyce, Scandinavia; two daughters, Diana (Brendan) Kohlbeck, Appleton, and Linda (Bill) Vanden Elzen, Appleton; two brothers, Raymond (Jane) Moe, Waupaca, and Philip (Phyllis) Moe, Waupaca; a sister Marian (Earl) Breier, Manawa; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Robert E. Erickson

Robert E. Erickson, 82, New London, formerly of Iola, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at New London Family Medical Center.

He worked as a cheesemaker for Weyauwega Milk Products for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian (Budsberg) Erickson, New London; son, Daniel Erickson, Weyauwega; daughters, Barbara (Louis) Maggio and Sandra Hemingson, both of New London; one brother, Donald (Ella May) Erickson, Weyauwega; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waupaca. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.

Voie Funeral Home, Iola, is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian H. Erickson

Lillian Harriet Erickson, 84, Weyauwega, formerly of New London and a town of New Hope native, died Sunday, June 9, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Jennifer DeNetz officiating. Interment will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Scandinavia in Waupaca County.

Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service.

Mrs. Erickson was born Nov. 20, 1928, in the town of New Hope in Portage County, a daughter of the late Norman and Clara (Bestul) Budsberg.

She was married to Robert E. Erickson on Nov. 1, 1947, in Iola. He died on Jan 11, 2010.

Survivors include one son, Daniel (Meri), Weyauwega; two daughters, Barbara (Louis) Maggio and Sandra Hemingson, both of Weyauwega; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Timothy; and two great-grandchildren

Bernice A. Erickson

Bernice A. Erickson, 89, of Iola, formerly of Scandinavia, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at the Iola Living Assistance.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Scandinavia Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola. Burial will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.

She was born April 10, 1917, in the town of Scandinavia to the late Louie and Clara (Johnson) Loken.

Bernice was married to Ernest H. Erickson on Nov. 6, 1937, at Hitterdahl. He died Jan. 25, 1969.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane (Marlyn) Jacobson of Scandinavia and Jane (Reuben) Jenson of Waupaca; two sons, Dennis (Shirley) Erickson of Scandinavia and Terry (Jane) Erickson of Seymour; one brother, Harlan (Mildred) Loken; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Julia M. 'June' Olsen

Julia M. "June" Olsen, 95, Iola, mother of a Plover man, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Iola Living Assistance in Iola.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iola, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Interment will in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Scandinavia.

Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the services.

Mrs. Olsen was born Dec. 17, 1915, in the town of Iola, a daughter of the late Teman and Laura (Nelson) Mork.

She was married to Harry Gullikson on Dec. 7, 1935, at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church. He died on Oct. 10, 1969.

She was married to Earl Olsen on May 11, 1974, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iola. He died on March 19, 1999.

She operated a dairy farm with her first husband for more than 30 years. She later worked at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in food service.

She was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran women's circles, Sons of Norway Norkseland Lodge 5-580 and its Norwegian Dancers.

Survivors include two sons, Donald (Lona) Gullikson, Iola, and Jim (Marilyn) Holiday, Plover; two brothers, Clarence Mork, Waupaca, and Phillip Mork, Iola; five granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ole and Ludvig Mork; four sisters, Ella Nielson, Olga Mork, Loretta Nueske, and Alma Flater.

Seona I. Mules

Seona Ilene Mules, 25, Iola, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Scandinavia Lutheran Church in Iola, with the Rev. Mark E. Sabin officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Ms. Mules was born Oct. 18, 1984, in Stevens Point, a daughter of Thane and Julaine (Swenson) Mules, Iola.

She was a member of Scandinavia Lutheran Church in Scandinavia.

Survivors include her parents; one brother, Shannon (Lisa) Mules, Waupaca; four sisters, Honna (Doug) Springborn, Michigan, Kiara (Jerry) Knutson, Ogdensburg, and Aubrie and Nalani Mules, both of Iola; and her maternal grandparents, James and Donna (Jenson) Swenson, Scandinavia.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Harley and Charlotte (Daniells) Mules.

Robert 'Buddy' Newby

Robert "Buddy" Newby, 62, Scandinavia, a Stevens Point native, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at his home following a long bout with cancer.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Iola United Methodist Church in Iola, with Pastor Dale Eggert officiating. Burial will be in the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the services.

Mr. Newby was born March 18, 1947, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Claude and Mabel (Rogers) Newby.

He was married to Diane Swenson on July 1, 1972, at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church.

He was in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and served in Vietnam as a specialist fourth class who was trained in Army Air Surveillance. Among the medals he received was the Distinguished Flying Cross for service above and beyond the call duty.

He was a member of American Legion Post 14 in Iola and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9748 in Iola, and he was formerly a member of the VFW Post in Bancroft.

He was employed as a technician for Furniture and Appliance Mart in Stevens Point.

He was a former member of the Plover United Methodist Church and a current member of the Iola United Methodist Church. He was involved in church activities, including men's group and a member of the church choir.

He participated in the community theater and chaperoned numerous school trips. He was a longtime blood donor. He was in 4-H Clubs in Plover and Scandinavia, serving as leader at both.

Survivors include his wife, Scandinavia; two daughters, Jamie (Adam) Jones, Rhinelander, and Katrina Newby, Scandinavia; one brother, Daniel (Mary), Plover; four sisters, Joan Suhr, Truman, Minn., Margie (Don Smith) Newby, Green Bay, Susan Pribel, Plainfield, and Cindy (Greg) Bernas, Stevens Point; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Ida L. Leppen

The Scandinavia community's oldest resident, Mrs. Ida L. Leppen, died Sunday at 12:05 a. m. at her home, after a month's illness. Mrs. Leppen would have been 94 on May 31.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. at the Scandinavia Lutheran church, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev, E. R. Larson, will conduct the services.

Friends may call at the Swenson funeral home in Iola after Thursday noon.

Mrs. Leppen, the former Ida L. Tweiten, was born in the town of Scandinavia May 31, 1861, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lars E. Tweiten.

She was married to Lars L. Leppen at Merrill on June 1, 1895. The couple lived in Rhinelander, Iola and the town of Scandinavia before moving to Scandinavia village in January, 1937. Mr. Leppen died Nov. 3, 1952.

Survivors include two sons, Irvin C. Leppen, Milwaukee, and Leonard E. Leppen, town of Scandinavia; two daughters, Mrs. Ingvald Anderson, Rosholt, and Miss Lillie Leppen, village of Scandinavia, and four grandchildren.

Funeral Of Mrs. Leppen

Rev. E. R. Larson officiated Friday afternoon at funeral services for Mrs. Ida L. Leppen of Scandinavia.

The services were held at the Scandinavia Lutheran church, and burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Otto Gurholt, Emil Hotz, Peter Quien, Ernest Leppen, James Twetan and Bjarne Erickson.  

"Rock of Ages" and "Abide with Me" were sung during the services by Mrs. Norman Olson, accompanied by Miss Sandra Holtebeck. Attending the rites from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Irvin C. Leppen, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Iacullo and daughter, Joanne, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Nornberg and son, Paul, Neenah, and others from
Rosholt, Nelsonville, Iola and Scandinavia.

Mrs. Leppen's only grandson, Harlan J. Anderson, is stationed at an air force base in French Morocco, North Africa, and was unable to attend.

Died on Tuesday morning, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Lewison.  The funeral is held at 2 o’clock this afternoon from the home to the United Lutheran church at Scandinavia, Rev. O. Nilson officiating.

Geraldine Trinrud

Geraldine Trinrud, 79, Scandinavia, mother of a Bancroft woman, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at her home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Scandinavia Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Sabin officiating. Burial will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola.

Mrs. Trinrud was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Waupaca, a daughter of the late Myron and Elna (Christensen) Huffcut.

She was married to Lavern Trinrud on Jan. 29, 1947, in Oak Park, Ill.

She was a nurse at the Iola Hospital.

She was an organizer of the Waupaca Area Genealogical Society, a member of Sons of Norway Norskeland Lodge 5-580 of Iola, the Ladies Aid at Scandinavia Lutheran Church and a 4-H leader.

She was a recipient of the MUSE Award in 2001, which was given to women who were an inspiration to others. She was active in rosemaling, knitting and keeping Norwegian cultural history alive.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Cindy (Greg) Oerter, Waupaca, and Valerie (Michael) Olson, Bancroft; two sons, Carl (Ellyn), Colbert, Ga., and Keith (Susan), Lawrenceville, Ga.; three sisters, Eleanor Robinson, Aurora, Ill., Betty (Larry) Ruth, King, and JoAnn Palacez, Montello; one brother, John (Georgia) Huffcut, Winneconne; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
