Mrs. L. Parker died Wednesday, March 24, 1937.  Laurette Gallup, daughter of Edwin and Amelia Gallup, born 4/11/1845 in the Village of Akron, New York.  She came to Waupaca County in 1860. For 25 years she made her home in Chicago with her daughter, Bertha

Mary Louise Ashmun 9, adopted daughter of Margaret Ashman, well-known author and former resident of Rural died suddenly at the Ashman home in Madison.  The body was taken to Stevens Point on Saturday.  A Christian Science service was conducted at 2:30 p.m. by a reader from Madison.  Burial followed in Forest Cemetery where a short service was held at the grave.

Attendants from out of town included Miss Margaret Ashman of Madison, Mrs. Mary Roberts of Rural; Clifford Ashmun of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Van Ashmun of Ashland; Mrs. G. A. Rollof of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Dougherty of Sun Prairie; Mrs. Frank Hermes of Wausau; Miss Gertrude Smith of Minneapolis; and Mr. and Mrs. Blood of Green Bay.

Former resident, Mrs. Heath dead.  Mrs. Betsy Lenora Heath, 90, at Galveston, Texas, died March 25, 1937.  She was the widow of Charles C. Heath.

J. W. Blessing dies suddenly, March 15.  He died at Evanston, Illinois.  Remains were cremated on March 17 with burial at Muskegon, Michigan on March 29.  Mrs. Blessing is the former Corella Pierson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sven Pierson who were long-time residence of Waupaca.

Mrs. Winfield Knapp died some time ago at the Winnebago County Home.  Mrs. Knapp was 80 years and at the time of her death was a resident of Maple Grove Community.

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Harold Custard of Willow Lake, S.D.   She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peterson of O’Hatton, Alberta, Canada.  She was the niece of A. M. and T. A. Peterson.

Mrs. Phoebe Miller, 77 died Monday morning April 19, 1937 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Goldbach, Lake Street following an extended illness.  Funeral services were conducted by Father Marcell of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the remains were taken to Chicago for internment.  A complete obit will be published next week.

Waupaca County Post – Waupaca, Wisconsin - April 22, 1937

Wm. Laux, 71 died at Batavia, Wisconsin yesterday after a brief illness.  Death was caused by a heart attack.  Mr. Laux was the father of Lester and Milton Laux and of Mrs. Mabel Whitney and Mrs. August Hegard of this city.  Six children with the widow survive.

Waupaca County Post – Waupaca, Wisconsin - April 29, 1937

August Hegard, 39, died of pneumonia 7:30 p.m. after a weeks illness at the Waupaca Hospital and Clinic.  He was born in Winona Minnesota, August 18, 1897 and came to Waupaca last November.  Mrs. Hegard, the former Eunice Laux, who attended the funeral for her father Wm. Laux at Batavia last week was called back to Waupaca Saturday when the condition of Mr. Hegard became serious.  Besides the widow, he is survived by a daughter, Caroline and a sister Mrs. M. E. Laux of Waupaca and a brother Thorvald Hegard of Racine and a sister Mabel in Boston, Massachusetts and his father in Winona, Minnesota.  Funeral services were held at 1:30 on Wednesday at the Congregational Church, Batvia, Rev. H. A. Block officiating.  Internment was also in Batvia.

Hilda Hotz was born November 4, 1888 on a farm near Scandinavia.  She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hotz.  She died March 31 at her home in Shawano after a two-month illness.  Hilda Hotz attended Scandinavia Academy and graduated from Stevens Point Teacher’s College after which she taught in Scandinavia, Independence, and Hawkins for seven years.  On May 11, 1917 she was united in marriage to Joel B. Stone.  To this union two children, Clifford and Harriet were born.  They lived in Hawkins and later moved to Shawano where they have resided for eight years.  Mrs. Stone was a member of the Eastern Star and an active worker in the Presbyterian Church in Shawano.  Besides her husband and two children she leaves to mourn five sisters:  Mrs. J. S. Bard, El Reno, Oklahoma; Mrs. R. M. Hanson, Scandinavia; Mrs. Selma Leuthold, Shawano; Mrs. E. C. strand, Edmore, N.D.; Mrs. Louise Olson, Delavan, Wisconsin and four brothers, E. A. Hotz, Scandinavia; Dr. H. G. Hotz, Fayetteville, Arkansas; O. L. Hotz, Shawano; and Richard Hotz, Wild Rose.  Funeral services were held April 5 at the Presbyterian Church in Shawano, Rev. Lee Terry officiating.  Mr. and Mrs. Schumacher of Shawano sang “In the Garden” and “Rock of Ages

FORMER RESIDENT BROUGHT TO CARO FOR BURIAL

Mrs. Emma J. Keiff Had Lived  Many Years in This City and Was Well  Known.

Old friends and neighbors in Caro of Mrs. Emma J. Keiff were greatly shocked to hear that she had passed away at her home in Detroit January 13.  She was born in Wisconsin nearly 67 years ago, and came to Michigan when 12 years of age residing with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
David H. Andrews.  She attended school in Caro and In 1873 became the bride of Augustus L. Keiff, a tail­or who died 12 years ago in Saginaw. The last seven years she  lived with her daughters in Detroit where for the past weeks she had been cared for during a severe sickness.

The body was brought to Caro Monday, January 16, to the home of Charles Gibbs where the only sister Mrs. Mary E. Gibbs is spending the winter. Services were conducted by Rev. Field of Detroit and were attend­ed by many of her old friends. She was buried in Caro Cemetery beside her husband
and her first babe who died at the age of 14 months.

Four children survive; Mrs. James Bullen of Detroit, Frederick of Chicago and Blanche and June of Detroit, also five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Other relatives and friends from out of town who were present at the funeral were James Bullen of Flint, Mrs. Emma Orr of Lansing,
Mrs. Mary Crosely of Bay City, Mrs. Ella Howell of Bridgeport, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McAlpine and Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Neal of Wisner.

(Note:  Emma Jane Keiff was the daughter of Elias and Julia (Andrews) Peck of Lind, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. Emma’s mother Julia Peck died on December 22, 1856 and is buried in the Lind Center Cemetery.  Emma’s father Elias Peck moved from the Waupaca County area
sometime between 1857 and 1860.  He died in
Rochester, Minnesota
on March 23, 1881.)

Obituary
Mary Eliza Gibbs


Mrs. Mary Eliza [Peck] Gibbs, who had been a resident of Tuscola County nearly all her life, died early Thursday morning, November 5, [1925] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John McAlpine of Wisner of a complication of diseases.  She had been in poor health for some time.  The funeral, under the direction of Lee Huston, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home of her son, Charles Gibbs on North Almer Street, and burial will be in the Caro cemetery.  Mrs. Gibbs was 72 years old last July.  She was the wife of Elias Gibbs, who died ten years ago, and seven children were born to the couple, two dying in infancy.  The living children are Charles Gibbs of Caro, Mrs. Robert Orr of Lansing, Mrs. John McAlpine of Wisner, Mrs. Cleveland Neal of Wisner, and Melvin Gibbs of Bad Axe. Besides the children she is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was a member of the Methodist church, a kindly, home-loving, Christian woman who will be sorely missed by her children and many friends.

Note:  Mary Eliza Gibbs was the daughter of Elias and Julia (Andrews) Peck of Lind, Waupaca County, Wisconsin.  Mary’s mother Julia Peck died on December 22, 1856 and is buried in the Lind Center Cemetery.  Mary’s father Elias Peck moved from the Waupaca County area sometime between 1857 and 1860.  He died in Rochester, Minnesota on March 23, 1881.

A Sudden Death

Mr. Elias Peck
, an old gentleman living on the Marion road just outside of this city was engaged in cleaning wheat in his barn on Wednesday afternoon, and fell dead. The cause is supposed to have been heart disease.
