Gary L. Behnke

Gary L. Behnke, 62, Waupaca, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Crystal River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waupaca.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in the town of Buena Vista, 8611 State Highway 54, between Plover and Waupaca, with the Rev. Daniel Farley officiating. Military graveside services will be in Little Wolf Cemetery in the town of Little Wolf in Waupaca County.

Visitation will be at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers to the Waupaca Area Food Pantry, E908 County Road V, Scandinavia, WI 54977.

Mr. Behnke was born March 29, 1947, in New London, a son of the late Leonard W. and Darlyne (Tyrrell) Behnke.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam during a period of March to October 1968.

He was married to Marlene Maier on March 9, 1968, in Madison.

He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Tom (Ameleah), New Lenox, Ill.; one daughter, Sally (Kyle Kenney) Behnke, Ogdensburg; one sister, Gail (Jerome) Stephany, Lomira; and five grandchildren.

Pearl I. Mace

Pearl I. Mace, 68, Iola died unexpectedly Wednesday at Iola of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Iola with Rev. David E. Sharpe officiating. Burial will follow in Little Wolf Cemetery, Manawa. Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home Iola after 6:30 p.m. today.

Mrs. Mace was born Feb. 10, 1909 in Amherst Junction, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Guyant. She was a lifelong resident of Iola after her family moved there when she was a child. She graduated from Iola High School and Central State Teachers College (now the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point) in 1929. She was married on April 30, 1955 to Elmer Mace in Amherst and he died April 15, 1956. She was a secretary.

Survivors include two brothers; Wakefield Guyant. 2430 Ellis St., and Gilman Guyant, Milwaukee, and one sister Mrs. Willis (Winifred) Babler.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents one brother and one sister.

Wilma C. Lind

Wilma C. Lind, 76, Manawa, a former Amherst area resident, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, as the result of an automobile accident.
 
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa, with Witt Sasser officiating. Burial will be in Little Wolf Cemetery in Manawa.
 
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon Thursday until the services.
 
Mrs. Lind was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Oklahoma, a daughter of the late Luther and Lena (Branum) Hayes.
 
She was married to Robert "Bob" Lind on Dec. 15, 1951, in Carlsbad, N.M. He died Oct. 24, 2005.
 
They moved to the Amherst area in 1952. In 1964, they moved to the Manawa area and she farmed with her husband in the town of Little Wolf in Waupaca County.
 
She worked as a cook at the Manawa Community Nursing Center for several years.
 
She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Larry (Sherri), Weyauwega, and Roger and Terry (Julie), both of Manawa; three daughters, Robin (Jim) Malone, Waupaca, Linda Lind, Manawa, and Katherine "Kitty" Lind, Appleton; one brother, Donald (Joyce) Hayes, Billings, Mont.; one sister, Annette Stoddard, Lake Charles, La.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
 
She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Johanna (Klug) Feustel

AGED LADY DROPS DEAD

Mrs. Johanna Feustel, 75 Years Old, Expires Suddenly On Return From Funeral Tuesday.

Shortly after her return from the funeral of Mrs. Dorothea Crueger at St. Paul's German Lutheran church yesterday afternoon, Mrs, Johanna Feustel aged 75, dropped dead at the home of her step-daughter, Mrs. George Price, 320 Monroe street. Mrs. Feustel had been in the house only a few minutes and was conversing with her daughter when she reeled and fell into Mrs. Price's arms. A doctor pronounced death due to heart trouble. She had never before been seriously sick, but at times had complained of slight pains in her left side.

Mrs. Feustel was the second wife of Rev. Gustave A. Feustel, a German Lutheran minister who was at one time stationed at Amherst, this county. She came here four months ago and had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Charles Price, 419 Oak street. She was born in Freistad, near Milwaukee, her maiden name being Johanna Klug, and celebrated her 75th birthday anniversary on Sept. 23.

Surviving are ten step-children: Mrs. Charles Price and Mrs. George Price of this city, Mrs. Julius Hahn, Mrs, William Kopitzke and Paul Feustel of Manawa, Gustave and Martin Feustel of Amherst, John Feustel of Ableman, Mrs. Frank Kamp of Royalton and Mrs Adolph Kuhn of Bruno, Minn.

The remains will be taken to Manawa tomorrow and the funeral will be held there Friday afternoon, with interment beside her husband, who died about two years ago.

Mildred Klotzbuecher

Mildred Klotzbuecher, age 62, died unexpectedly in Appleton on Saturday, December 27, 1980.  She was born March 12, 1918 in Wyoming Township, Waupaca County. 

Formerly a resident of Manawa, she lived in New London the past 10 years.  She taught in Weyauwega, Linwood, Waupaca and Manawa from 1969-78.  Since 1978 she taught in New London as a reading specialist and learning aids supervisor.  She was 1938 graduate of Stevens Point Normal School, received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens point in 1970 and her master’s degree from UW-Oshkosh in 1978.  In 1973 she was recognized as Wisconsin’s Outstanding Elementary Teacher and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, vice-president of Delta Kappa Gamma.  She also belonged to the Northeast Wisconsin Education Association, the Wisconsin Education Association, the International Reading Association, the Wisconsin Reading Association, and the Fox Valley Reading Council.  She was vice-president of the New London B.P.W. and the District 5 membership chairwoman.  She belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Manawa, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies’ Aid group.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Jean) Bergman, New London; her mother Louise Schmidt, New London; three sisters, Mrs. Verna Much, Marion, Mrs. Milton (Toby) Aasen, Iola, and Mrs. John (Doris) Brockhaus, Shabbona, Ill, and one granddaughter, Amy.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George, Sept. 1, 1968.  Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Manawa, with the Rev. Carl C. Luedtke officiating.  Burial will be in the Little Wolf Cemetery.

Dorothy E. Oestreich

Dorothy E. Oestreich, 84, of Manawa, a former owner of the Wagon Wheel Drive Inn in Rosholt, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the Iola Nursing Home.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa, with the Rev. H. William Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the Little Wolf Cemetery in Manawa.

Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. Friday until the services.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa, Hospice of Portage County in Stevens Point or the Iola Nursing Home in lieu of flowers.

The Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa is assisting the family.

Mrs. Oestreich was born April 11, 1919, in the town of Little Wolf in Waupaca County, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Annie (Guren) Thomack. She lived and worked in the Manawa area until her marriage.

She was married to Walter R. Oestreich on Oct. 11, 1942. He died Aug. 8, 1981.

They lived in River Falls and Endeavor while he finished college and taught high school.

They moved to Rosholt in 1959 where they owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Drive Inn.

In 1965 they moved to Manawa where they owned and operated the Lakeview Drive Inn.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa, the Ladies Aid and the Mission Circle and attended various Bible studies. She worked for St. Paul Lutheran School hot lunch program.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy (John) Scheldberg, Burnsberg, Minn., Patricia (Roger) Olson, Northland, and Katherine (Dean) Dobbe, Eagle River; two sons, Roger (Kathy) Oestreich, River Falls, and Mark (Mary Jo) Oestreich, El Cajon, Calif.; one brother, Everett (Alice) Thomack, Manawa; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice Thomack; two brothers, Lester and Arnold Thomack; and two grandchildren.
