She was born July 2, 1922 in the town of Wyoming, daughter of the late Herman and Louise (Splittgerber) Schmidt. She was united in marriage to Milton I. Aasen on June 6, 1942 in Big Falls. He died on April 3, 1995. CordelIa had worked as a physician's assistant and lab technician in Chicago area clinics. She worked with her husband at the Iola Dairy and later as a loan secretary at the First National Bank in Iola. During WWII she was a "Rosie the Riveter" as she worked for Boeing on B-17’s and B-29's. She loved scrabble, skiing, shopping, her collection of mice, and flying with Milton. She enjoyed her PT Cruiser, her computer, and her grandchildren were very important to her. She had been a member of the Hitterdahl WELCA, Sons of Norway Norskeland 5-580 and the American Legion Auxiliary Sheveland-Taylor Post 14. Survivors include two sons; Don (Chris) Aasen, Iola, Terry (Liz) Aasen Glen Ellyn, IL, one daughter-in-law; Marianna Aasen, Lisle, IL, her dog, Sidney, two sisters-in-law; Anita (Everett) Peterson, Amherst Junction, Millie Conrad, Eureka, CA, seven grandchildren; Michelle (Charlie) Wyatt, Megan (Mark) Beske, Monica, Eric; Amanda, Kjersti, and Scotty Aasen, seven-great grandchildren; Danielle, Billy, and Beth Wyatt, Taylor and Kyle Beske, MIchael and Jessica Schaefer, two step-grandchildren; Trisha (Randy) Coughlin and Jerry Artos, two step-great grandchildren; Randy, Jr. and Sarah Coughlin. She was preceded in death by a son, Greg, and three sisters; Verna Much, Mildred Klotzbuecher, and Doris Brockhaus. Funeral services were held Monday, April 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Somers officiated. Burial was in the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery. Voie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ____________________________ Date & Newspaper Unknown Milton I. Aasen, age 77, died Monday, April 3, 1995 at his home. He was born June 16, 1917 in the Town of Iola, so of the late Johnnie and Cora (Thoe) Aasen. He married Cordella “Toby” Schmidt on June 6, 1942 in Big Falls, she survives. He was a former under-sheriff of Waupaca County and for 29 years a special investigator for the Soo Line Railroad until retirement in 1982. He was a member and past president of the Nordic United States Ski Officials Association and ski jumping judge for the past 47 years. He participated in the 1980 Olympics at Lake Placid, New York as a ski jumping security official. He was a member and past president of the Iola Winter Sports Club, a member and past commander of the American Legion Sheveland-Taylor Post 14 of Iola. Charter member of the Iola Lions Club, Director of Central County Airport and one of the founders of the airport, charter member of the Sons of Norway, Norskeland Lodge #5-580 of Iola. Director of the Iola Old Car Show Board, member of the Waupaca County Board and served on the following committees: Highway Committee, University Agricultural and Extension Committee, Park and Recreation Committee, Human Service Commission on Aging, Human Service Commission on Transportation, and the Criminal Justice Committee. He was the Town Chairman of the Town of Iola, former chairman of the Rural Fire Association, former chairman of the Iola Ambulance Association. He was member and past president of the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church and was named the Iola Person of the Year in 1994. He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII with the 4th Air Force. He enjoyed skiing and flying. He is survived by his wife; three sons: Terry (Elizabeth) Aasen, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Greg (Marianna) Aasen, Lombard, Illinois, Don (Chris) Aasen, Iola; a brother, Clifford (Valeda) Aasen, Iola; two sisters: Mildred Conrad, Eureka, California, Anita (Everett) Peterson, Amherst Junction; a sister-in-law: Beverly Aasen, Iola; five grandchildren: Eric Aasen, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Michelle (Charles) Wyatt, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Megan (Mark) Beske, Bloomingdale, Illinois, Monica Aasen, Winfield, Illinois, Amanda Aasen, Iola. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Allen, Orin and Russell Aasen and a sister Jeanette Aasen. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 1995 at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church with Rev. Gerald Holz officiating. Burial was the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery. Iola, Wisconsin - August 29, 1996 Greg M. Aasen, 46, Lombard. Ill., formerly of Iola, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Illinois. He was born Dec. 4, 1949, in Iola, the son of Cordella "Toby" (Schmidt) and the late Milton Aasen. On Oct. 9, 1994, he married Marianna Bruce. She survives. He was baptized on Jan. 8, 1950, at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church, Iola, and confirmed April 7, 1963, at Northlake Lutheran Church. He was active in ski jumping in his youth as a member of USSA. He attended Blackhawk Junior High School and graduated from Fenton High School, Bensonville, Ill, in 1968. An area general foreman for Meade Electric, Westmont, Ill, he was a member of Local No. 701 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Lisle, Ill. He also was a member of the Midwestern Council Racing Association and had been very active in closed track road racing, including formula racing. He had lived in Glen Ellyn, Villa Park, and Winfield, Ill. Survivors include his wife, Marianna; his mother: Cordella "Toby" Aasen, Iola; three daughters: Michelle(Charles) Wyatt, Glen Ellyn, Ill., Megan (Mark) Beske, Ogdensburg, and Monica Aasen, Lombard, Ill.; one stepdaughter: Patricia Artos, Lombard, Ill.; one stepson: Gerald Artos, Lombard, Ill.; and two brothers: Terry (Liz) Aasen, Glen Ellyn, Ill. and Donald (Chris) Aasen, Iola. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton I. Aasen. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church, Iola, with Rev. James Ilten, Lombard, Ill. and Rev. Daniel Somers officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Voie Funeral Home, Iola, was in charge of arrangements. _____________________________

Journal – Stevens Point, Wisconsin - January 22, 1976 Mrs. Hans Moen, 90, a lifelong resident of the Iola area, died at 8:30 p. m. Tuesday at Iola Hospital, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 30 p. m. Saturday at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church. The Rev Paul Ronning will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola. The former Mary Nelson was born March 21, 1885, in the Town of Iola, Waupaca County She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nelson. She married Hans Moen on Feb. 8, 1905, at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church Her husband died in 1942. Survivors include five sons, Melvin, Arnold, Harold and Norman, all of Iola, and Leonard, Oshkosh, one sister, Mrs. Nannie Solberg, Waupaca, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One son, one daughter, a sister and a brother preceded her in death. _____________________________
Newspaper Unknown Elmer Torbenson, Iola, died Monday morning at his home after an illness of about six months. He would have been 70 years of age on Saturday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hitterdal Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Harold Naig officiating. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home at Iola from 2 p.m. on. Friday until noon on Saturday, when the body will be taken to the church. Mr. Torbenson was born in the Town of Iola (Waupaca County) on Nov. 19, 190, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Torbenson. On Nov. 11, 1915, he married Clara Olson of the Town of Iola at the Hitterdal church and they farmed for many years in the Iola area. They moved to the village 16 years ago. He
