Alvina B. Tolsma

Alvina B. Tolsma, 77, Waupaca, mother of a Stevens Point woman, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Bethany Home in Waupaca.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, with the Rev. Jeffrey Holtan officiating. Burial will be in Barton Cemetery in the town of Farmington in Waupaca County.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the service.

Mrs. Tolsma was born Dec. 28, 1931, in the town of Wyoming in Waupaca County, a daughter of the late Clyde and Carrie (Kapen) Luker.

She was married to Clarence H. Tolsma on March 31, 1978, in Saxeville. He died on Sept. 11, 2008.

Survivors include five sons, Edwin (Debbie) Christianson, Ogdensburg, David Christianson, Arkansas, Larry (Sally) Christianson, Butte des Morts, Steven Christianson, Oshkosh, and Randal Tolsma, Weyauwega; four daughters, Sharon (Curt) Goltz, Lake Nebagamon, Denise (James) Ratajczak, Stevens Point, Charleen (Larry) Abrahamson, Waupaca, and Melanie (James) Lobner, Wisconsin Rapids; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.

Adam A. Contreras

Adam A. Contreras, 23, Waupaca, brother of two Stevens Point men and a Plover woman, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Appleton.

Services will be at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca at noon Friday. Interment will be in the Barton Cemetery in the town of Farmington in Waupaca County.
 
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. Friday until the services.
 
Mr. Contreras was born Sept. 13, 1982, a son of Juan Contreras and the late Shirley Deal.
 
He worked as a cook at the Dairy Queen in Waupaca from 1999 until about May of 2005, when illness forced him to quit working.
 
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Juan and Vanessa Contreras, Waupaca; five brothers, Richard (Jennifer) Contreras and Roy (Marion) Contreras, both of Stevens Point, and Dakota Contreras, James Kendrick and Paul Kendrick, all of Waupaca; seven sisters, Nancy Contreras, New Richmond, Nanine Contreras, Plover, Naomi Contreras, Weyauwega, Norma (Roy) Vela, Madison, and Nanette Contreras, Nora Contreras and Teresa Kendrick, all of Waupaca.

John L. Turner

John L. Turner, 90, Waupaca, a Portage County native, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Crystal River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waupaca.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Parfreyville United Methodist Church in the town of Dayton in Waupaca County, with the Revs. John and Wendy Christianson officiating. Interment will be in Barton Cemetery in the town of Farmington in Waupaca County.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials to the Parfreyville United Methodist will be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Turner was born Aug. 3, 1911, in Blaine in Portage County, a son of the late Fred D. and Florence (Bucknell) Turner.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy and Brazil during World War II.

He was married to Lulu K. Wiles on Sept. 27, 1941, in Antigo.

He farmed and started Turners Market on Highway 54 in the town of Farmington (Waupaca County) with his family in 1965.

He was a member of Waupaca VFW Post 1037.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jeanne (Robert) Bootz, Waupaca; one son, Ross (Deborah), Waupaca; two foster daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Miller, Mauston, and Kathy O'Brien, Racine; two brothers, Claire (Marge), Waupaca, and Merle (Adora), Almond; one sister, Marie Harvey, Waupaca; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynne Turner; two sisters, Leah Wenzel and Doris Ryan; one foster sister, Neoma Wiles; and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Ed. Guyant (Jennie)

Death came Saturday to sadden he home of Mr. Ed. Guyant when the faithful wife and mother succumbed to an illness of two years, most of the last three months of which time the patient was bedridden.

Jennie Bucknell was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Bucknell in town of Farmington, February. 23, 1869, and on Sept. 22, 1886, was joined in holy wedlock to Ed Guyant and for nearly forty year they shared the joys and sorrows of an ideal Christian home.

Of the six children born to this union, two have preceded the mother in death, the eldest daughter Frances who died in early womanhood and John, the youngest, who died at the age of four, would now be in his
twentieth year had he lived.

The surviving children are: Edna (Mrs. Clayton Smith) of Fond du Lac, Allen Guyant of Blaine, Borden Guyant at home, and Alice (Mrs. Art Kriese) of Weyauwega.

Three brothers and three sisters of deceased also mourn her untimely death. They are: Joseph, George and William Bucknell of Farmington, Mary (Mrs. Frank Guyant) of Belmont, Anna (Mrs. William Kent) of
Nebraska, and Alice Bucknell of Farmington.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home with interment in Barton cemetery. Rev. W. W. Woodward officiated.

The large number of friends and neighbors who came to pay their respect to the memory of deceased and beautiful floral tributes were highly appreciated by the members of the bereaved family.

Borden Guyant

American Legion services were held Monday afternoon for Borden Guyant, aged 31, a World war veteran, who ended his life by shooting himself last Saturday morning at his (illegible) in the town of Farmington, Waupaca county. Mr. Guyant had been planning breakfast while his father, Ed Guyant, with whom he had lived since the death of his wife, performed the chores. Upon the fathers return to the house he found that the son had committed suicide with a shot gun. Despondency since the death of his wife is reported to be a contributory factor to the young mans suicide.

Rev. W. W. Woodward officiated at the rites, which took place at the Holly funeral home at Waupaca and interment followed in Barton cemetery.

Mr. Guyant was born in the town of Farmington and had lived there all his life. He enlisted for service in the World war in 1917 and served in Company C until 1919. His marriage to Miss Inez Hopkins of Lanark took place in May, 1927, and her death occurred in August, 1929. Three children were born, Bessie, Irene and John, all of whom survive. Besides the children and his father, Mr. Guyant leaves two sisters, Mrs. Kriese of Weyauwega and Mrs. Clayton Smith of Iola, and one brother, Allen Guyant of Blaine.

Dale Stedman

Man killed in auto crash after chase
 
A 19-year-old rural Waupaca man was killed early this morning when the stolen car he was driving left a Town of Belmont road and struck a parked truck while being chased by Waupaca County authorities.

Dale S. Stedman, Route 3, Waupaca, was pronounced dead of multiple injuries on arrival at Riverside Hospital in Waupaca.
Portage County Sheriff's Department deputies said Stedman was driving a car belonging to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and was southbound on Stratton Lake Road, about eight miles northeast of Almond.

The vehicle left the road on a curve, deputies said, and struck a truck belonging to Thomas C. Shustack, Route 2, Almond, after driving through the Shustack yard about 2:45 a.m.

The impact pushed the truck into a wooden shed, deputies said, and pushed the shed into another shed, Stedman was thrown from the vehicle, deputies reported.

Waupaca authorities said the car was stolen about 2:30 a.m. from a state employee's home in the Chain O' Lakes area. Authorities spotted the vehicle a short time later, pursuing it for 14 minutes.

The auto was demolished and damage was extensive to the truck. No estimate was made of the damage to the sheds.
Stedman's death is the seventh on Portage County roads in 1977.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Holly Funeral Home, Waupaca.

Funeral services for Dale S. Stedman, 19, Route 3, Waupaca, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Holly Funeral Home, Waupaca, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday.

The Rev. Leon Leeds, First Baptist Church, Waupaca, will officiate. Burial will be in Barton Cemetery, Town of Farmington. Mr. Stedman was killed in an automobile accident Wednesday morning in the Town of Belmont

He was born May 18, 1958, in Iola, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Stedman. He was a member of the Marine Corps at the time of his death. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Clydene Stedman, Waupaca; two brothers, Robert, Austin, Tex., and Jim, Amherst; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Kealiher, Waupaca; two nephews and a niece. His Father preceded him in death.
