Birth, Marriage and Death Records

The Wisconsin Pre-1907 Birth, Death and Marriage Index is available on microfiche at Wisconsin State Historical Society. Madison and their Area Research Centers, the LDS Family History Center and possibly even your local library. This index is also available online at Ancestry and LDS Family History Library.

Wisconsin Death Index 1959-1979 This is an online searchable microfiche index. The site includes directions on how to search this index..

RESEARCH TIP: While searching for vital records remember that Iron County was not formed until 1893. What we know today as Iron county was originally part of Ashland County; Oneida County and Vilas County. You may need to also search in these counties.

Birth Death and Marriage Certificates can be purchased from the Iron County Register of Deeds or the Wisconsin Dept . Birth certificates are presently $12 each and death or marriage certificates are $7 Counties were not required to send copies of all vital records to the state until October 1907 so the most complete set of vital records will be found at the Register of Deeds office, not the state office.
