Hancock News Plainfield and Vicinity Mrs. J. Wilson has been out to the Farley home getting acquainted with that little grandson. W. G. Foster has traded his lievery outfit here for the Crystal Spring Bottling Works in St. Point. Sumner Pickering celebrated his fifteenth birthday last Saturday by entertaining a number of his boy friends in the evening. As Saturday, Feb. 8, 1908, was the 81st birthday anniversary of Rev. R. D. Sparks, a number of relatives and friends were invited to help celebrate the occasion. There were nineteen present and all did ample justice to the oysters, roast turkey and other good things to eat. Mr. Sparks is in better health now than he was a few weeks ago and still takes a lively interest in the affairs of church and state. ___________________________

Hancock News Miss Marcia Schoff closed a five-months’ term of school in South Burr Oak last Friday. The only two out of 43 pupils who attended every day were Goldie Warren and Julia Marousek. After a vacation of two weeks Miss Schoff will begin the spring term in the same place. Plainfield and Vicinity Frank Trickie is ill again with rheumatism. Mrs. Wm. Stevens has been very ill with pneumonia. Dr. Frost is not recovering as fast as his many friends wish he might. A. Keene has moved out of the restaurant and Mr. Collins is now in charge. Rev. and Mrs. Sparks have been seriously ill with a relapse of the grip the past week. Mrs. Jas. Mattice has been seriously ill the past few weeks. Mrs. Ida Dixon, of Hancock, has been helping to care for her. Frank Freeland and Earl Perry, and their families, started Tuesday evening for the state of Washington where they intend to locate. Tarun Bros.’ creamery burned Sunday morning. They had sold it but the papers were not completed so the ??? ???? from partial insurance is theirs. Little Chicago Ward Weldon has rented A. Gragg’s farm. There’s a new boy at Art Marshall’s since March 22nd. Jas. Cain is planning to move before long on to a farm 2 ½ mi. east of Plainfield. Miss Lizzie Zwetz departed last Thursday night for a visit at Mellen and Ashland, after which she intends to go to Hibbing, Minn., and spend the summer with her brother Roy. On Wednesday evening of last week a large number of friends and neighbors gathered at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Almon Gragg and gave them a farewell surprise party. The time was well spent in social ways and a nice supper was served. Mr. and Mrs. Gragg were presented with two fine large rugs to frequently remind them in their Canadian home of their many friends back here.

Coloma and Vicinity Fred Gloede has moved on to the Fousch farm. A son was born last week Wednesday to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Carlton. Myron Herrick, of Minocqua, has been here the past week or two visiting old friends. John Cardo and little son returned last week from Chicago where they had been to receive treatment in the Pasteur institute for mad dog bites. Miss Cory Turner’s cow, which was bitten by a mad dog about a month ago, was killed yesterday after several days of suffering with hydrophobia. Scores of people came, many from a distance, to see this cow since she was taken ill and no one questions it being a genuine case of that terrible disease. Kill your dog if you value the lives of relatives, neighbors or stock. _______________________________

Plainfield and Vicinity Mrs. Susie Bovee arrived home Wednesday from her visit in Fond du Lac and other places. Miss Ruby Tahermel will work in Borden’s drug store while Miss Belva Hunt takes a vacation. Big Flats L. Christensen is planning to build a large basement barn and also intends to rebuild his house. Mr. Sorenson, of Friendship, will do the job. Miss Nora Holmes went to Riverview hospital in Grand Rapids last Thursday, where she underwent a successful operation on Friday for appendicitis.
