Agnes Marie Cooper

Agnes Marie Cooper, 97, Wisconsin Rapids, formerly of Iola, Stevens Point and Hancock; died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Wisconsin Rapids, with Terry Nash officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in the village of Iola.

Voie Funeral Home in Iola is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.voiefuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Iola on April 28, 1913, a daughter of the late Simon and Marie (Syvertson) Bakeng.

She was married to William E. Cooper on June 3, 1931, in Waupaca. He died on Oct 23, 1967.

She was a resident of Chula Vista Manor in Wisconsin Rapids from 1978 to 2008 and then became a resident of Hilltop Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids until the her death.

Survivors include stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends: Lorraine Nash and Terry Nash both of Wisconsin Rapids.

She was also preceded in death by one stepson, Firman Cooper; three stepdaughters, Emma Cooper, Elsie Gjertson and Elizabeth Kutcher; one sister: Gladys Bakeng; and three brothers, Palmer, Alvin and Sidney Bakeng.

Alpha Bakeng

Alpha Bakeng, 94, of Iola died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at the Iola Living Assistance.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iola. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
 
She was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Iola to the late Theodore and Marie (Pederson) Hartvig.
 
Alpha was married to Sidney Bakeng on July 3, 1948, in Sacramento, Calif. He died on Nov. 3, 2005.
 
She worked as a laundress at a laundry in Milwaukee.
 
Survivors include one brother, Charles Hartvig of Iola.

Sidney M. Bakeng
 
Sidney M. Bakeng, 90, of Waupaca, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids and Iola, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at The Crystal River Nursing Home in Waupaca.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iola. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Voie Funeral Home of Iola is in charge of arrangements.
 
He was born May 17, 1915, in Shiocton, to the late Simon and Marie (Syvertson) Bakeng.
 
Sidney was married to Alpha Hartvig on July 3, 1948, in Sacramento, Calif. She survives.
 
He had worked in the "pickle plant" for the Laddish Co. in Cudahy for 34 years. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having served as a staff sergeant.
 
Survivors include his wife, Alpha of Waupaca; and one sister, Agnes Cooper of Wisconsin Rapids.

Franklin A. Nace


FORMER REGENT OF UNIVERSITY DEAD AT IOLA
Meningitis Aggravated by infected Ear Fatal to Franklin A. Nace

Franklin A. Nace, former member of the University of Wisconsin board of regents and known throughout the state as a Holstein breeder died at his home three of Iola at 8:30 o’clock this morning following a brief illness.

Mr. Nace, who was 45 years of age at. the time of his death, developed meningitis as a result of an infection in one ear and his condition had been critical for several days.

From 1922 to 1928 Mr. Nace was a member of the University of Wisconsin board of regents. Previously he had become prominent in state dairying circles as a breeder of pure bred Holstein cattle. At the time of his appointment to the board of regents he was reported to be the first farmer to serve in that capacity.

Surviving Mr. Nace are his widow and three children. Funeral arrangements had not been completed at noon today.

Mrs. Harris Amundson


Mrs. Hams Amundson, 82, Iola, died at 2:30 a m Saturday at the Iola Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola. The Rev. S.M. Becker will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Iola,

Visitation will be today at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola. The former Alma Isaacson was born April 9,1892. in Manitowoc, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nels Isaacson. She lived most of her life in the Iola area and was married to Harris Amundson on June 17, 1920 in Scandinavia.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include two brothers, Norman Isaacson, Scandinavia, and Selmer, Waupaca, and one sister, Mrs. James (Clara) Reierson, Scandinavia.

Harry Amundson

Harry Amundion, 76, died at 3:45 this morning at the Iola Hospital. He was a retired butter maker at the Consolidated Badger plant in Iola. Mr. Amundaon, who was a veteran of World War I, had been ill the past year and a hospital patient four days.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, with the Rev. Kenneth Roufs officiating, and burial will take place in Zion Cemetery, Iola.

Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola, after 2 p.m. Tuesday, and at the church after Wednesday noon.

Mr. Amundson was born in the Town of Iola Sept. 26, 1888, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arnund Simonson. He had lived In Iola village since 1942.

On June 17, 1920, he was married to the former Alma Isaacson at Scandinavia, who survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Oscar, Iola, and Odin, Seymour, and a sister, Mrs. Hannah Faldet, Iola.

Oscar M. Amundson


Oscar M. Amundson, 82, Iola, died Friday afternoon at Iola Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola with the Rev. Henry A. Lease officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Iola.

Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola. after 3 p.m. Monday. Mr. Amundson was born in the Town of Iola on March 24, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Amund Simonson. He was a veteran of World War 1 and was married Nov. 21, 1944, to Helma Amundson, in Iola She died Oct. 6, 1973.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Hannah Faldet, Iola.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Velda Rierson


Mrs. Velda Rierson of Iola died at 9:40 p m. Wednesday at the Iola Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was 63 years old. Mrs. Rierson was the widow of Carl Rierson.

She was born in Manitowoc on April 23, 1897, and moved to the Town of Scandinavia (Waupaca County) as a child with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Nels Isaacson.

Her marriage took place at Scandinavia on Dec. 8, 1917. Mrs. Rierson, who at one time resided in Nelsonville, had lived in Iola for a number of years.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Harris Amundson, Iola, and Mrs. James Reierson, Town of Scandinavia; two brothers, Norman and Selmer Isaacson, Town of Scandinavia, and two nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola, with the Rev. J. P. Hulterstrum officiating. Burial will take place in Zion Cemetery in Iola.

Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola, from Friday noon to Saturday noon.

Mrs. Realf Bestul

Mrs. Realf Bestul, 85, died at her home in the Village of Amherst at 2:15 p. m. Tuesday. She had been ill for five months.

Mrs. Bestul and her husband had marked 67 years of married life in November.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the Amherst Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. O. Paul Haugen officiating, and burial will take place in Zion Cemetery at Iola.

Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola, from 2 p. m. Friday until 11 «. m. Saturday, and from noon until the time of the services at the church.

Mrs. Bestul, the former Helen Anderson, was born on May 20, 1875, in the Town of New Hope, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus
Anderson.

Her marriage to Mr. Bestul took place Nov. 18, 1893, and the couple made their home on a farm in the Town of Helvetia (Waupaca County.) They lived there until moving to Amherst 15 years ago.

Mrs. Bestul is survived by her husband, who is 90; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Ella) Johnson, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Norman (Clara) Budsberg, Amherst; nine sons, Olaf and Norman, Ogdensburg, Alfred, New London, Carl, Amherst, Alvin, Wisconsin Rapids, and Harold, Elmer, Jonas and Lawrence, Iola; 24 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.

Realf T. Bestul


Realf T. Bestul, 93, a resident of Scandinavia Nursing Home, died at the nursing home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday. He had been in failing health for the past six months.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at Peace Lutheran Church Amherst, with the Rev. John Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Iola.

Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola after 2 p.m. Tuesday until 11 a.m. Wednesday and from noon Wednesday until the time of the services at the church.

Mr. Bestul was born in the Town of Scandinavia Oct. 9, 1869, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ole Bestul.

After his marriage to Helen Rasmussen on Nov. 18, 1893 they moved, to the Town of Helvetia (Waupaca County) where they operated a farm and a sawmill. They moved to Amherst in 1945. His wife died in January, 1961. He is survived by eight sons, Norman, Ogdensburg, Alfred, New London. Carl, Amherst, Alvin, Wisconsin Rapids, and Elmer, Harold, Jonas and Lawrence, all of Iola; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Ella) Johnson, Waupaca, and Mrs. Norman/(Clara) Budsberg, Amherst; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one brother. Otto, Iola; two sisters, Mrs. Ole Aasen, Iola, and Mrs. Ed Lindaas, Mayville, N. D.; and nieces and nephews.

Severin O. Bestul


Funeral services for Severin Olaus Bestul, 86, of the Town of Helvetia (Waupaca County) will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Iola. The Rev. J. P. Hulterstrum will officiate and burial will be made in Zion Cemetery at Iola. The body is at the Voie Funeral Home at Iola.

Mr. Bestul died suddenly Sunday at 2 p.m. at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1872, in the Town of Scandinavia (Waupaca County), son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole R. Bestul. On Sept. 16, 1902, he married Gustina Kittleson and they lived all of their married life in the Town of Helvetia. Mr. Bestul was a former treasurer and assessor in that township. Mrs. Bestul died in 1936.

Mr. Bestul is survived by two sons, Lloyd and Rueben. both of Helvetia; one daughter, Mrs. Alton Strand. Iola: two brothers. Realf Bestul of Amherst and Otto Bestul of Iola, and five sisters, Mrs. Anna Dahlen and Mrs. Ole Aasen, both of Iola. Mrs. Clara Olson, Town of Helvetia. Mrs. Nora Mountain, Appleton, and Mrs. Eddie Lindaas, Mayville. N. D.

Rueben Bestul

Rueben Bestul, 70, Iola, died Wednesday morning at home, after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola. The Rev. Henry A. Lease will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Iola.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola. Mr. Bestul was born Nov. 9, 1903, in the Town of Helvetia. Waupaca County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Severin Bestul. He married Inga Moen on Sept. 9, 1925, at Hitterdal. He farmed until moving to Iola a few years ago.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lionel, Rosemount, Minn., and Russell, Iola; one daughter. Mrs. Donald (Delores) Johnson, Kiel: one brother, Lloyd, Iola; one sister. Mrs. Alton (Leah) Strand, Iola; and eight grandchildren.

Lloyd W. Bestul, 69, Route 2, Iola, died Sunday morning at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola. The Rev, Henry A. Lease will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Iola.

Friends may call today at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola. Mr. Bestul was born Nov. 13, 1905, in the Town of Helvetia, Waupaca, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Severin Bestul. He was a fanner and lifelong resident of the Town of Helvetia.

He married Erma Begrow on Oct. 26, 1938, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Town of Dupont, Waupaca County.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Walter and Evan, Iola, and Herbie, Fond du Lac; one daughter, Mrs. Calvin (Geraldine) Preuss, Milwaukee; one sister, Mrs. Alton (Leah) Strand, Iola; and nine grandchildren.

One infant daughter and a brother preceded him in death
