Robert Towne, the oldest man in the village of Royalton died Monday at age 86.  Robert Towne was born in Ogdensburg, New York in 1850 and while still a young man came with his parents to Winnebago County and in 1863 came to Royalton where he has since resided.  He was married to July 4, 1972 to Josephine Favell and to this union two children were born:  Freeman of Shiocton and Orin of New York state.

In early years, Mr. Towne worked on the river and in the woods and later followed the trade of a stone mason until he became blind and was forced to give up his activities.  In spit of his blindness and failing health, he was always cheerful and had a pleasant word for everyone.

Funeral services were held at the Royalton Congregational Church yesterday, conducted by Rev. Sneesby.
