Guy Anderson Shot in Groin and Hip by Oscar Bonnell at White Lake - May Recover

News came to this city Sunday saying that Guy Anderson, a young man who buys potatoes for P.M. Olfson, while hunting ducks on White Lake Sunday was accidentally shot by a young man named Oscar Bonnell, that the charge from one barrel of a shot gun had penetrated near the groin and hip of the right leg making an ugly and painful wound, physicians were summoned from Weyauwega who dressed the wound and stated that if blood poison did not set in he would undoubtedly recover.  Late reports state that the young man is doing as well as possible and the indications are manifest for a speedy recovery.

A co-incident in this accident was the fact that only a few years ago the father of the Bonnell boy accidentally shot and killed himself on a Sunday hunt near this city by getting the hammer of his gun caught against a log as he was walking through the brush.  It would seem after such a calamity in a family a son would never care to handle a gun. And further, we learn the same gun that shot Anderson was the same that killed Bonnell’s father.

From the Weyauwega Chronicle we glean the particulars which are no doubt accurately told.

Sunday morning at White Lake Guy Anderson, a young man of 19 who is engaged in buying potatoes at Waupaca, was accidentally shot by a young companion named Bonnell, a son of Mrs. Wm. Richter of Gills Landing.

It seems that Anderson was in a stooping or squatting position when Bonnell fired at birds in the air, and as he swung around after the discharge of the one barrel, the gun being cocked and the trigger accidentally pressed, the second barrel was discharged, the shot striking Anderson in the leg and most of it lodging and remaining in his hip.
