Israel Jason Cannon was born March 17, 1840 in Richmond, Crawford Co., PA. Along with his family, he moved to Wisconsin in 1855. Between 1862-1865 he served in the 23rd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, Co. C. He was captured twice by the enemy and was held as a prisoner of war. He incurred several health disabilities as a result of his military service, including being shot in the left hip, and partial deafness.On July 11, 1886 he married Parthena Lindsey Quimby in Marion, a woman 25 Photo submitted by Kathleen M. Photo belonged to Erwin J. Nelson who attended school in Waupaca. The school picture was probably taken at the old grade school right in Waupaca. E.J. Nelson grew up on Ware street in the 3rd ward. The names were written on the back by E. J. and it is believed the (D) meant the person had died when EJ put the names on the back of the picture.
