WAUPACA - Population 2,000. A progressive, modern, incorporated city, located on the Waupaca river and on the Waupaca-Green Bay and M. St. P & R Ste. M Rys. In Waupaca county, of which it is the judicial seat, 130 miles northwest of Milwaukee and 221 from Chicago. It is situated also in the midst of the chain of lakes, one of the most beautiful summer resort districts in the state. On the shores these lakes are numerous hotels and summer cottages and no matter what the disposition of the pleasure-seeker may be his every wish for healthy wholesome recreation will be gratified. There are famous trout streams emptying into the lakes, boating and bathing, ideal yachting waters, scenes of surpassing beauty and fine roads for carriage or automobile. The city is lighted by electricity, has wide, shaded and paved streets, water works, sewerage system, fire department, 8 churches, excellent schools, lodges of the leading fraternal societies, a public library, 2 weekly newspapers, a bank, local and long distance telephone facilities, flour mill, foundry, starch factories, planing mill, brewery, etc. The Hotel Delavan is first-class, ably managed, modern in all its appointments and the mecca for the traveling public, pleasure seekers and resorters. Four miles north a fine deposit of granite owned by the Waupaca Granite Quarry Co. The product of the quarry was used in the construction of the Chicago Telephone Building, the Commercial Bank Building of Kansas City, the Omaha Bee Building and many other fine structures. The Waupaca-Green Bay R R now operate the quarry and give it the best shipping facilities. The Wisconsin Veterans' Home is located 5 miles distant and connected by electric railway. Tel. W. U. Exp.
