RURAL
The settlement at Rural was started by J. H. Jones in 1851. The first postoffice in town was established in 1851, under the name of
Nepawan and with Lyman Dayton as postmaster. In 1853 it was moved to Rural and Mr. Jones became postmaster.

Early teachers at Rural were Miss Ellen J. Jones and Mrs. J. Ashman.
